Hey everyone! I haven't done a post in awhile, so I figured that I'd write one. Yesterday I had my psychology appointment. I'm going to stop there for a moment. Yes, I go to a psychologist. No, I am not a psycho or suicidal. I do deal with depression, anxiety and ADD. Sometimes talking to someone helps, especially if you really like your psychologist, like I do :). Anyway, to understand the following metaphor, I'm going to need to explain some things. Meyers Briggs is a personality quiz, which assigns you letters based on your type. I'm an INFJ. I stands for introvert, Which means I'm generally shy around people I don't know, and sometimes I prefer being alone. N stands for intuitive. Meaning that I can automatically sense people's emotions and figured out what they feel. F stands for feeling. That means that I'm more focused on how I/others feel than being facts oriented. Finally, my J stands for judging. This means that I'm generally more discerning. I can usually see through lies and people pretending to be okay when they're sad and such. Author's note: I'm not a stalker or a psychic. I can just instinctively know some traits of a person I don't know well based on hearing about they or observing them. I enjoy learning about people. The group of letters define my personality. INFJs are the 1% of the population. We are rare. One huge thing about me and INFJs is that we are primarily feeling, but we also think a lot. So, now I can tell you about this 'light bulb' that came on yesterday.
I am a Jedi.
(No, I am not delusional. I will explain.) My psychologist and I were talking about my problem with either over thinking or over feeling. I'm an extreme kind of person. All or nothing. My psychologist told me to practice balance. Balance the thinking with the feeling. Hence the 'Jedi' metaphor. My mind started spinning. The thinking must balance the feeling. The feeling must balance the thinking.
I started to think about my brain as the force. The dark side is my feelings and emotions. (I'm not implying that feelings are bad AT ALL. Grace, my dear, dear buddy is 99.999% feeling, and she's not a crazy Sith bent on world domination. It's just a metaphor, guys.) The light side is my logic and thinking. And what do Jedi do? They bring balance to the force. They make sure that the dark side doesn't become too powerful. This doesn't just apply to INFJs. Balance is important. Thinking people, if they become too thinking, run the risk of being insensitive. Feeling, if they become too feeling, risk being hypersensitive. Thus we see why balance is important. I need to learn to balance out my 'all or nothing' instincts. This might not be mind blowing to you, but it was to me. Maybe you learned something. Hope you enjoyed this post. May the force of balance illuminate your lives, and Godspeed! ~Promise.
INFP.
ReplyDeleteAnd Grace is more thinking than you think. She accidentally insulted me on several occasions.
I know you think! I wasn't implying that you're an emotional basket case that never thinks! You just feel things deeply. A lot.
ReplyDeleteHa! I was kidding you, Prommy.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I AM somewhat of an emotional basket case that never thinks....but Bubbs is changing me!
